The Virginia Values Act is about to hit Governor Northam’s desk—and he has 30 days to sign it!
But opponents of LGBTQ freedom have sprung into action and are asking to add harmful amendments to the bill. They're calling and emailing the Governor since under Virginia law, he can add amendments and send bills back to the General Assembly at any point during that 30 days.
Adding amendments now wouldn’t just weaken the bill. Sending it back to the General Assembly this late in the session could sink it altogether. We've come too far to let this happen in the final hour.
Email the Governor right now. Urge him to sign the Virginia Values Act into law with no amendments, and to do it ASAP.
We know the bill is in its absolute best form right now. It gives clear, strong nondiscrimination protections for our community. And protections for religious freedom and for businesses were considered and added during the legislative process. But now, some groups want to water down the Act’s critical enforcement tools or introduce broad religious exemptions.
The Virginia Values Act doesn’t need any changes—and LGBTQ Virginians can’t wait any longer for protections. Virginia is about to become the first state in the South (and the 21st state in the nation!) with comprehensive LGBTQ nondiscrimination protections. We know Governor Northam is excited for Virginia to make history on his watch. Let’s make sure it does.
Email Governor Northam now and urge him to sign a clean bill with no amendments!
